Caddying is far more than a summer job, it is an important tradition of the game of golf. The core values that underscore a caddie’s presence on the golf course are the same ones that can help them to be successful later in life. In 2022, Gearhart Golf Links teamed up with the Western Golf Association and the Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship program. Currently, there are 1,100 caddies enrolled at 22 leading universities on an Evans Scholarship. The scholarship covers full tuition and housing costs for up to four years of college and is an estimated value of $125,000. GGL has 8 or 9 kids enrolled in the caddie program, each trying to earn one of those scholarships. Through the generosity of the course owner, and the GGL Men’s club, you can hire a caddie for your round for a very reasonable rate. A fund was started by the owner and the men’s club to underwrite half of the caddie fee. As a player, you would pay the other half and a gratuity to match the caddie’s efforts. Specifically, $25 is paid to the caddie by the Club, $25 by you the player in CASH, plus a gratuity.
